Guillermo Barbieri   (1894 - 1935)

Distinguido compositor, no sólo de tangos sino de toda la gama de la música criolla. Melodías nacidas de su guitarra —de su padre heredó esa vocación— pulsada desde niño, sin maestro, pero al amparo de su amor al instrumento.

He was a distinguished composer, not only for tango but the whole range of Creole music. Tunes born from his guitar down, from his father inherited the vocation since childhood, without a teacher, only under the love for the instrument.

Él fue uno de los más notables guitarristas de Carlos Gardel a quien conoce en 1921 para luego acompañarlo alternadamente en sus presentaciones y giras por Europa y el mundo.  De una recopilación de su labor autoral, más de la mitad de ella fue hecha para Gardel. Fallece en el accidente aéreo de Medellín conjuntamente con su amigo Carlos Gardel. 

He was one of the most notable guitarists of Carlos Gardel to whom he has been introduced in 1921, then they alternated on presentations and tours to Europe and the world. From a collection of his authorial work, more than half of it was made for Gardel. He died in the plane crash of the tragedy of Medellin with his dear friend.

Y aunque me niegues que has sufrido yo bien sé que me has querido mil horas angustiosas y que en tu pecho se han quedado las dichas del pasado como marchitas rosas... Si por otro hombre me dejaste, no quiero reprocharte lo mal que te has portado. Vos sos mujer y te perdono Si al fin con tu abandono me has hecho más feliz. Yo soy como es el ave, libre vuelo y en pos de un alma buena mi alma va, pues cuando necesito algún consuelo hay otra que a mi alma se lo da. Ya que fue tu gusto el despreciarme jamás nunca a tu lado volveré. Te pago como has sabido pagarme, y todo aquel pasado olvidaré.

English Yesterday when I saw you so haughty Walking with who was  my rival, I thought on your twenty years that gave more beauty to your gaze. And even though you deny that you have suffered I well know that you loved me thousand agonizing hours and that in your heart is left the past bliss like withered roses... If you left me for another man, I would not reproach you how badly you've behaved. You're a woman and I forgive you If at the end with your abandon you have made me happier. I am like the bird, free flight and in pursuit of a good soul my soul goes, since when I need some comfort there is another person that gives it to my soul.
