Tango Talks!

What to do when a forbidden love is asking us to forget all the past, not realizing that it’s not possible to move on with the heart cut in pieces... slowly dying.  Again, tango talks to us...

Acerca del Cantante / About the Singer
Roberto Chanel

It was an excellent singer , delicate, with a warm sweetness, typical exponent of his time. And yet it did not extended his fame beyond the knowledge of tango artists , collectors,or at most, of those who lived their time. For the very knowledgeable, he was the best singer of Pugliese, not the most popular or the most famous, but the one that better represented the Maestro. His version of the tango "Farol" of the Expósitos brothers is a classic.

His real name was Alfredo Mazzochi, alias El Turco. In the mid-1939’s and to join the orchestra of Osvaldo Pugliese, the singer takes the stage name of Roberto Chanel for an idea of Julio Jorge Nelson ( a leading lyricist and composer) was inspired by a poster advertising a jewelry store.

The researcher Nelida Rouchetto defined it thus: "With his nasal trawls , his “canyengue” diction and man of the people characteristics he kept fresh the roots that created the popular urban music . It was Chanel who identified himself as an instrument of the orchestra, in the manner of a viola, as can be seen from his first recording".

Castellano:

No sabes cuánto te he querido,
como has de negar que fuiste mía;
y sin embargo me has pedido
que te deje, que me vaya,
que te hunda en el olvido.

Ya ves, mis ojos no han llorado,
para qué llorar lo que he perdido;
pero en mi pecho desgarrado...
sin latidos, destrozado,
va muriendo el corazón.

Ahora, que mi cariño es tan profundo,
Ahora, quedo solo en este mundo;

English:

You don’t know how much I loved you,
How can you deny that you were mine;
however you asked me
to leave you, to go away,
to sink you into forgetfulness.

You see, my eyes haven't cried,
why to mourn what I have lost;
but in my torn chest...
with no beats, ripped,
the heart is dying.

Now, that my love is so deep,
Now, I'm left alone in this world;
doesn't matter that I’m dying and no one comes
to cover these spoils , I don’t care
about life! If my life is in your eyes.

Now that I feel the chill of death,
now that my eyes are not going to see you...
Doesn't matter If somebody will have you
if I know that no one can love you
so as much as I loved you .

But in my torn chest...
with no beats, ripped,
the heart is dying.

Tango Talks!

Love sometimes leads us down to different life paths and maybe we get lost in its labyrinths, but when we realize our mistake, perhaps it is too late to return. The character of this lyrics well knows and perhaps will suffer forever that cowardice of the past. Tango again, advises us...

Acerca del Autor / About the Author

This is one of those songs that won the streets of Buenos Aires in no time and became a huge success . In the mid-fifties Héctor Varela was a furious fashion, with its singers Argentino Ledesma and Rodolfo Lesica.

Juan Pablo Marín was a guitarist, singer and author, born in Plaza Huincul (Province of Neuquén) who drew his song and tore it big in the city of tango . It has been sung countless singers, even in time of bolero, and served as a platform for Marin to settle in the land of tango with great fortune, at 28 years old.

One night he was another great poet, Julio Camilloni, in a bar cross street to Radio El Mundo and between drinks and coffees, he confessed  the  true story that took him to transcribe it musically, with its sore verses. He dragged the sentimental story from his province.

Virtually unknown today, he was the creator of magnificent tangos like this and Reflexionemos (Lets Think About It). Every time we listen this tango lets remember that confession of love.

Fueron Tres Años, Héctor Varela y Argentino Ledesma

Castellano:

No me hablas, tesoro mío,
no me hablas ni me has mirado.
Fueron tres años, mi vida,
tres años muy lejos de tu corazón.
¡Hablame, rompé el silencio!
¿No ves que me estoy muriendo?
Y quítame este tormento,
porque tu silencio ya me dice adiós.

¡Qué cosas que tiene la vida!
¡Qué cosas tener que llorar!
¡Qué cosas que tiene el destino!
Será mi camino sufrir y penar.
Pero deja que bese tus labios,
un solo momento, y después me voy;
y quítame este tormento,
porque tu silencio ya me dice adiós.

Aún tengo fuego en los labios,
del beso de despedida.
¿Cómo pensar que mentías,
si tus negros ojos lloraban por mí?
¡Hablame, rompé el silencio!
¿No ves que me estoy muriendo?
Y quítame este tormento,
porque tu silencio ya me dice adiós.
English:

You don’t speak to me,  my sweetheart,
You don’t speak or have regarded me.
It has been three years my dear,
three years far away from your heart.
Talk to me, break this silence!
Can’t you see that I'm dying?
And take away this torment,
because your silence is already telling me goodbye.

How life is!
Having to cry!
Circumstances that destiny has!
Suffering and grieving will be my way
But let me kiss your lips,
just for a moment, and then I will go;
and take away this torment ,
because your silence is already telling me goodbye.

I have still that fire on my lips,
of the goodbye kiss.
How to think that you were lying,
if your dark eyes were crying for me?
Talk to me, break this silence!
Can’t you see that I'm dying?
And take away this torment,
because your silence is already telling me goodbye.

Tango Talks!

What happens when we give refuge to someone with a wounded soul, learn to dream with that person, and then have to remember when him/her is no longer? Tango talks to us... let's listen.

The innate inclination for musical invention and the delicate and creative temperament identified , from the moment of his artistic initiation, the physiognomy of his work. Involved , for reasons of intimate aesthetic affinity with the Romantic school between 1915 and 1935 , the apogee of this formal and essential variety of tango.

With the same quality of imagination and development, he ventured into the work of instrumental conception. Performer of unmistakable sound and phrasing, has been a real diseur in his intimate piano mode.

Since 1939 , he continued his career as a conductor, in a very evaluative rise, recording sixty two versions for the Odeon house, with the voices of Miranda , Raul Beron and Horacio Quintana. After 1950, he recorded with his orchestra for Columbia, TK and Artfono .

Castellano:

Ella vino una tarde y era triste
fantasma de silencio y de canción,
llegaba desde un mundo que no existe.
Vacío de esperanza el corazón.
Era nube, sin rumbo ni destino,
tenía la ternura del adiós.
Mi paso la siguió por cien caminos
y un día mi fatiga la alcanzó.

Ella,
piel de sombra, voz ausente.
Ella, en mis brazos se durmió.
Juntos, sin saberlo, torpemente,
aprendimos duramente
las verdades del amor.
Ella, floreció bajo la luna.
Ella, renació para mi afán.
Juntos, sin angustias, sin reproche,
sin pasado, noche a noche,
aprendimos a soñar.
English:

She came one afternoon and was a sad
phantom of silence and song,
she came from a world that does not exist.
The heart empty of hope.
She was cloud, without direction or destiny,
had the tenderness of the goodbye.
My steps followed her on hundred paths
and one day my fatigue reached her.

She,
skin of shadow, absent voice.
She, fell asleep in my arms.
Together, unknowingly, clumsily,
we learned the hard way
the truths of love.
She, flourished under the moon.
She, was reborn for my eagerness.
Together, without anxiety, without reproach,
no past, night after night,
we learned how to dream.

Tango Talks!

The lyrics of the song tells us that when we love too much to the wrong person, that same love makes us let him/her go, being us condemned to continue to love and feel the shadow of that love forever.

Not only Racciatti is part of the history of tango in Uruguay through a period of over fifty years , but also in both banks of the Rio de la Plata.

His orchestra expressed a classic tango very rhythmic , simple, perhaps with not so much musical value but highly popular. Had a D' Arienzo’s resemblance and his records were always a boom.

The brightest stage of his orchestra was between 1953 and 1960, with great female voices, first the best singer of his country stood out: Nina Miranda, and later Olga Delgrossi who performed with him for seven years.

Hasta Siempre Amor

Castellano:

Hasta siempre, amor,
pasarás de otro brazo
y dolerá el fracaso
igual que hoy.

Hasta siempre, amor,
corazón como el mío,
que compartió tu hastío,
no encontrarás.

Y entre la gente buscarás
la mano amiga que te di
y sólo así comprenderás
que por quererte te perdí.

Hasta siempre, amor,
pasarás de otro brazo
y dolerá el fracaso
igual, igual que hoy.

Hasta siempre, amor,
cuando sueñes conmigo
en las noches de frío
ya no estaré.

Y no me llames, si me ves
a mi también con otro amor,
porque es inútil esperar
si la esperanza ya murió.

Hasta siempre, amor,
pasarás de otro brazo
y dolerá el fracaso
igual, igual que hoy.

English:

Farewell, my love,
you will go by in another arms
and the failure will hurt
same as today.

Farewell, my love,
a heart like mine ,
who shared your ennui,
you will not find other.

And among the people you will look
the helping hand I gave you
and only then you will understand
that for this love I lost you.

Farewell, my love,
you will go by in another arms
and the failure will hurt
same, same as today.

Farewell, my love,
when you dream with me
in the cold nights
I will no longer be there.

And don’t call me if you see me
with another love too,
because it is useless the waiting
if hope has died.

Farewell, my love,
you will go by in another arms
and the failure will hurt
same, same as today.

Jamás Retornarás (You Will Never Return)

Lyrics: Osmar Maderna / Miguel Caló

Singer: Raúl Berón
Recorded: October 9, 1942 - Buenos Aires, Odeon 8369 12290

Acerca uno de los Autores  / About one of the Authors: Osmar Maderna

Maderna was a pianist strongly inclined to romanticism, viewed as the Chopin of the tango. His subtle, almost ethereal and suggestive touch, deprived of any emphasis or pomposity, led him to create an orchestral style based on the same pattern.

Plain and transparent, his arrangements conceived fancy solos, alternating piano, bandoneon and violin. That style of his, born toward 1940, influenced the entire decade and contrasted with both the popular tango (with Juan D´Arienzo as remarkable example) and the academic tango (Anibal Troilo).

Osmar Maderna at the center

His tangos lack any tough or coarse traces but also any symphonic pretension. He preferred to convey a simple emotion and accurate expression, which he achieved through a permanent self-control.

Castellano:

Cuando dijo adiós, quise llorar…
Luego sin su amor, quise gritar…
Todos los ensueños que albergó mi corazón
(toda mi ilusión),
cayeron a pedazos.

y tan cruel has destrozado
mi corazón?
Jamás retornarás…
lo dice el alma mía
y, aunque muriendo está,
te espera sin cesar.
English:
When she said goodbye, I wanted to cry...
Then without her love, I wanted to scream...
All dreams that housed my heart
(all my illusion),
fell apart.
Soon I will be back, said when she left
I waited like crazy... Poor me!
And today, that so much time has passed without her return,
I feel that have lost her love.

You never will return...
my soul says,
and in this solitude
I name you night and day.
Why, why did you leave me
and so cruel you have shattered
my heart?
You never will return...
my soul says,
and while dying is,
awaits you endlessly.

¡Bravo!

Danced like the locals do, with punctilious musicality and style. This couple demonstrates the intensity of their expression in the embrace and in the perfection of their movements.
